Report: Barcelona's stadium needs funding.
Reports have indicated that the Spanish football club Barcelona is seeking to secure more funds to complete its project to develop its stadium, "Spotify Camp Nou"; however, this process is now facing a new crisis.
The Spanish newspaper "Marca" clarified that most construction projects exceed their initial budgets; such as the stadium development project and the "Espai Barça" project.
The same newspaper pointed out that the renovation works are taking longer than expected. Therefore, the loan that the club received from Goldman Sachs, amounting to 1.45 billion euros, did not cover all the costs, and the Catalan club is in need of more support.
For its part, the newspaper "Diari Ara" reported today, Sunday, that FC Barcelona, under the presidency of Joan Laporta, is aware that the planned budget will not be sufficient to complete the "Espai Barça" project, and Laporta will need to seek the approval of the club's members as he considers obtaining it at the general meeting scheduled for next July; after the newly elected president forms the new board of directors.
The newspaper added that other items may be added to the agenda of this meeting, while the alternative option is to wait until the regular general meeting at the beginning of the new season.
It is expected that the current phase, which will see the preparation of 9,400 new seats for VIPs, will continue until the summer of 2027; while pressure rings and the roof will be built in the stadium, which will require relocating fans to another unspecified area in the stadium, starting with the 2027/2028 season.
