A painful blow for Brazil before the match against Morocco.
The injury sustained by Brazilian international Wesley to his left thigh has raised concerns among the technical staff of the Brazilian national team, after he left the "Seleção" match against Egypt in tears, which ended with Brazil winning two to one, as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
Brazilian coach Carlo Ancelotti stated during the press conference following the match that it is too early to determine the nature of the injury or the potential duration of absence, pending the results of the medical examinations that the player will undergo upon the team's return to New Jersey.
The Italian coach explained that Wesley's injury is a loss for the team, but he emphasized that there are alternatives capable of compensating for him, highlighting that the duo Marquinhos and Gabriel Magalhães are gradually regaining their fitness after participating in the UEFA Champions League final.
Regarding the possibility of excluding the player from the squad participating in the "World Cup," Ancelotti clarified that the decision will remain linked to the results of the medical examinations, adding: "We are waiting for the final diagnosis. I believe he has enough time to recover and return during the World Cup, and if that is not possible, we will choose another player."
The Brazil coach also expressed confidence in Danilo and Ibanez's ability to fill the right-back position if needed, noting that the former has significant experience in this position, while the latter has previously played it in past matches with the national team.
For his part, Rodrigo Caetano, the director of national teams at the Brazilian Football Confederation, confirmed that the player will undergo imaging tests to determine the extent of the injury, expressing hope that it is not serious, given Wesley's importance within the group.
The Brazilian national team is preparing to face the Moroccan national team next Saturday at the "MetLife" Stadium in New Jersey, USA, in the opening of their campaign in the 2026 World Cup.
