Scotland fans are worried before the World Cup.
A wave of concern has risen among Scottish national team supporters ahead of the 2026 World Cup, following an unpleasant surprise for many of them: the cancellation of their Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) to the United States, despite having previously received the necessary approval to enter the country.
In this regard, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security clarified that obtaining an ESTA does not automatically guarantee entry into the United States, noting that all applications are subject to periodic and ongoing reviews through security and judicial databases, which may, in some cases, lead to a change in the status of the authorization at any time.
Several affected individuals revealed that the status of their applications suddenly changed from "approved" to "under review" or "not authorized to travel," with a complete absence of any official explanation or prior notification, while the total number of affected supporters remains unknown at this time.
The British newspaper "The Times" reported from informed sources that these developments have created a state of uncertainty and confusion among Scottish fans who were eagerly preparing to travel to the United States to support their national team in the biggest global football event.
On the sporting front, Scotland is participating in Group C of the 2026 World Cup, where it finds itself facing three teams from three different continents: Morocco, Brazil, and Haiti, in a challenging test that tens of thousands of fans around the world are eagerly anticipating.
