The Portugal national team defeats Chile.
The Portuguese national team defeated their Chilean guests 2-1 on Saturday in Oeiras, west of the capital Lisbon, as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup scheduled to take place in North America starting next Thursday.
After finishing the first half without goals and with a numerical disadvantage for both teams due to the red card given to AC Milan star Rafael Leão from the home side and Ivan Roman from the opposite side for their involvement in a scuffle (45+2), the "European Seleção" opened the scoring at the beginning of the second half through Gonçalo Guedes, a substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo, with a through ball from Ruben Neves (58).
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes added the second goal in the 75th minute with a shot from outside the penalty area, before the South American guest, absent from the World Cup, reduced the deficit in the final seconds with a long-range shot from Lucas Cebida (90+2).
The Portuguese national team will play another friendly match on Wednesday at home against Nigeria before traveling to the United States, where they will begin their journey in Group 11 against the Democratic Republic of Congo on June 17 in Houston, which will also host their second match against Uzbekistan on the 23rd, before moving to Miami to face Colombia four days later.
