Vilda hopes for a final between Morocco and Spain.
Spanish coach Jorge Vilda, the coach of the Moroccan national women's football team, expressed his confidence in the ability of both the Moroccan and Spanish teams to go far in the 2026 World Cup, hoping that the final will feature both teams given the potential they possess.
Vilda stated in an interview with the Spanish news agency "EFE" that the upcoming edition of the World Cup will be more open to all possibilities, especially after increasing the number of participating teams to 48, which will provide the opportunity for greater surprises compared to previous editions.
The Spanish coach, who led his national women's team to victory in the 2023 World Cup, explained that the new format of the tournament will make the path to the title more complicated, as the team reaching the final will have to play an additional match in the knockout stages, increasing the chances of surprises and narrowing the gaps between teams in the elimination matches.
Vilda confirmed that knockout matches are very different from the group stage, as the outcome is decided in just one match, which opens the door to unexpected results. He added that teams aspiring for the title also need some luck and favorable factors alongside technical quality.
Regarding the chances of Morocco and Spain, the coach of the "Atlas Lionesses" emphasized that both teams have a group of players capable of competing at the highest levels, stating that he believes they will reach very advanced stages in the tournament, and he even hopes to see a final between them.
Vilda's statements come at a time when the Moroccan national team continues to establish its position among the top global teams, following the historic achievement it made in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, in addition to ranking seventh in the FIFA rankings.
It is worth noting that the Moroccan team will kick off its journey with a match against the Brazilian team next Saturday at the "MetLife" stadium in New Jersey, starting at 11 PM Moroccan time.
