Mourinho hints at a return to Real Madrid.
It seems that the Portuguese José Mourinho has confirmed his willingness to return to coach the Spanish football team Real Madrid, if Florentino Pérez wins the club's presidential elections next Sunday.
Pérez posted a video on the social media platform "X" showing Mourinho in a Real Madrid jersey, saying: "Yes," while another phrase appeared saying: "For now, they continue to only talk on television. We have a lot of history to make."
The British news agency "PA Media" reported that the video was published in response to a television appearance by Spanish businessman Enrique Riquelme, who was promoting his candidacy for the club's presidency.
Pérez has not hidden his intention to sign Mourinho as the team's coach if he wins the elections on Sunday and continues as president of the club for an eighth term, but his post on social media seemed to give the matter an official stamp.
Reports have indicated that Mourinho, the Benfica coach, has agreed to a three-year contract to coach Real Madrid, succeeding Álvaro Arbeloa, who was appointed in January following the departure of Xabi Alonso.
So far, Benfica has not confirmed Mourinho's departure, while speculation is increasing regarding Marco Silva's candidacy to succeed him, after the Portuguese coach announced that he would leave Fulham at the end of his contract this June.
Mourinho, the former coach of Inter Milan, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Chelsea, spent three years coaching Real Madrid until 2013.
Mourinho led the royal team to win the Spanish league title in 2012, after having won the Copa del Rey title the previous season.
He also won the UEFA Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, and claimed the UEFA Cup with the Portuguese club, as well as the Europa League title with Manchester United and the UEFA Conference League with Roma.
Mourinho took over coaching Benfica in September 2025, and the team finished the current season in third place in the Portuguese league.
Reports also mentioned that Riquelme said he would make Erling Haaland, the Manchester City player, his first signing if he became president of Real Madrid.
