Wahbi: We benefited from the friendly match against Madagascar... and we are preparing for all "World Cup scenarios."
Mohamed Wahbi, the national coach, sent reassuring messages a few days before the World Cup finals, after confirming that the friendly match in which the Moroccan national team won against Madagascar, on Tuesday evening, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, with a score of four goals to nil, achieved the set objectives in terms of result, performance, and assessing the readiness of various national players.
Wahbi explained, in the press conference that followed the match, that the victory was not the only goal of the encounter, but it was an opportunity to apply many tactical ideas and test a range of solutions before entering the global competition, emphasizing that the technical staff was keen to give a chance to a large number of players and extract as many positive indicators as possible.
He said in this regard: “The important thing was to win and present a good image and apply the instructions. We made many changes, which is unusual, but we tried several options and came away with important conclusions, and I was pleased with the prevailing mentality within the group and the great harmony among the players.”
Speaking about the health status of some players, the coach of the "Atlas Lions" revealed that Nayef Aguerd is continuing his treatment program according to the specified protocol, confirming that the final decision regarding his readiness will be made in due time, noting that Sofiane Saadi is in good condition and remains an option available to the technical staff.
He also clarified that Nayel Al-Ainawi's absence was due to illness, while the medical staff preferred not to take risks with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou after he felt pain in his shoulder.
Wahbi praised the Moroccan fans who attended the stands, considering that they played their usual role in supporting the team and motivating the players. He also commented on the brief participation of Ibrahim Diaz, pointing out that his great popularity among the fans was one of the reasons that prompted the technical staff to include him, so he could have the opportunity to meet the supporters before traveling to the World Cup, especially since some of them will be able to follow the team in the tournament, while others will only support it from afar.
