Morocco dominates African taekwondo.
The Moroccan taekwondo team continued its continental brilliance, as it was crowned African champion in both male and female categories, in addition to topping the overall ranking of the African Championship for seniors held in the Malian capital, Bamako, with the participation of 32 countries and more than 260 male and female athletes.
The national team finished the competitions at the top with a total of 15 medals, distributed among 6 golds, 3 silvers, and 6 bronzes, thus confirming the distinguished position that Moroccan taekwondo has now achieved at the African level.
The gold medals were won by Soufiane Al-Asabi in the over 87 kg category, Haitham Al-Zaghouti in the under 80 kg category, Mohamed Amin Al-Dhahiri in the under 68 kg category, Amina Dahawi in the under 57 kg category, Farah Al-Tawzani in the under 46 kg category, and Omayma Al-Boushti in the under 53 kg category.
The national team also secured three silver medals through Nouzha Al-Assal, Hajiba Harakat, and Nada L'Ajr, along with six bronze medals won by Fatima Zahra Al-Nams, Khadija Lamdardar, Lamia Al-Bakur, Mariam Al-Niya, Abdul Hamid Abdooni, and Zakaria Al-Khoyir.
In the final ranking of the championship, Morocco topped the female competitions ahead of Ivory Coast and Mali. It also secured first place in the male category ahead of Niger and Burkina Faso, finishing the competitions at the top of the overall ranking, followed by Ivory Coast and then Niger.
The continental event also witnessed the brilliance of Moroccan coaches, as Badr Samaili won the award for Best Male Coach; while Hakima Al-Maslahy was awarded Best Female Coach, and international referee Naima Blash received the award for Best Referee in the championship.
This achievement is a new confirmation of Morocco's dominance in African taekwondo, as it retained its continental title for the third consecutive time, following victories in Kigali in 2023 and Abidjan in 2024, adding the Bamako 2026 title to its record of continental achievements.
