Bietkovic reveals Algeria's squad.
Bosnian Vladimir Petkovic, the head coach of the Algerian national football team, revealed today, Sunday, the final list of the team participating in the World Cup, which kicks off next month in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The list includes 23 professional players alongside three players from the Algerian league, namely defenders Zinedine Belaid and Achraf Abada, and goalkeeper Osama Ben Bout. Petkovic also announced the inclusion of a fourth additional goalkeeper, Abdel Latif Ramadan, the goalkeeper of Mouloudia Algiers.
Issa Mandi, Nabil Bentaleb, and Riyad Mahrez are the only trio who participated in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, while the rest are preparing to make their debut in the World Cup.
Petkovic stated in a press conference that his choices were not based solely on individual capabilities or talent, but on the level of collective integration, sacrifice for the team, and the determination to play each match with the required strength.
Petkovic confirmed that he is completely convinced of the merit of the players he has chosen from all aspects, including technical, tactical, and even human factors, and he believes it is very difficult to accept his choices, especially when it comes to the World Cup.
He hinted that the non-inclusion of Ismael Bennacer and Baghdad Bounedjah does not diminish their value at all, but he emphasized that he has called up the most important players in his opinion.
The Algerian national team is preparing to face its host, the Netherlands, in a friendly match next Wednesday in Rotterdam, before returning to Algeria and then traveling to Kansas City on June 7, in preparation for facing Bolivia on the 10th of the same month.
Algeria will begin its World Cup journey by facing the defending champion Argentina on June 17, followed by a match against Jordan six days later, and then Austria on the 28th of the same month.
