Penalty shootouts eliminate Morocco from the semifinals of the "Youth Africa Cup" against Senegal.
The Moroccan national team for under 17 was eliminated from the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, which is being held in Morocco, this Thursday evening, after losing to the Senegalese team in a penalty shootout (7-6), following a 1-1 draw at the end of regular time.
The Senegalese team entered the match strongly, with player Mohamed Wagi opening the scoring in the 23rd minute, before the "Atlas Cubs" gradually managed to get back into the game, despite a Moroccan goal being disallowed in the 38th minute for offside after a review using video technology.
The Moroccan under 17 team showed a strong face during the second half, as they dominated the midfield and created many attempts in search of an equalizer, but they failed to convert them into goals.
In the seventh minute of stoppage time, the referee awarded a penalty to the "Cubs" after one of the Senegalese defenders handled the ball inside the penalty area, and Elias Al-Aoud succeeded in scoring the equalizer, despite the goalkeeper saving the ball on the first attempt.
The two teams went to penalties, which smiled upon the Senegalese team with a score of 7-6, securing their place in the final to face the Tanzanian team, while the Moroccan team will face their Egyptian counterpart in the placement match for the "Youth Cup".
