"The World Cup Black" in varying interpretations... between the ambition for brilliance and the bet on building.
The list of the Moroccan national football team participating in the World Cup has opened up varied critical readings, between the legitimate chances of repeating the scenario of the "Qatar World Cup," and the presence of a youthful touch that may aim to build a more cohesive team than any other ambition.
The Moroccan team will play its first match in the 2026 World Cup on Saturday, June 13, against the Brazilian team, at the New York/New Jersey stadium in the United States.
Badr Eddin El Idrissi, a sports expert, stated that "the World Cup list must completely align with the event; because this alignment means the necessity of presenting a Moroccan team that meets the aspirations of Moroccans first, and is at the level of the expectations of experts and followers."
El Idrissi explained to Hespress that "the Moroccan team enters this time in the guise of a contender, unlike previous participations; therefore, it was essential for the list to align with these expectations and the heavy stakes placed on the national team."
The same speaker pointed out that "the list came in line with the vision of coach Mohamed Wahbi, who differs somewhat in his perspective from Walid Regragui, as he tried to blend experience with youth, especially players with high technical abilities."
The same sports expert added that "the list relied on the usual objective criteria to ensure its fairness, such as competitiveness, readiness, and psychological alignment with the event," highlighting that it "included only ten players who participated in the Qatar 2022 World Cup."
El Idrissi concluded by noting that there are 16 players experiencing the World Cup for the first time, reflecting a radical shift in building the team, affirming that "despite some questions and comments, the list enjoys a very high level of fairness."
