Doubts surround Neymar's participation against Morocco.
Rodrigo Lasmar, the doctor of the Brazilian national team, confirmed that the participation of star Neymar Jr. in Brazil's opening match against the Moroccan national team in the 2026 World Cup remains in doubt due to a muscle injury in the calf.
Lasmar explained that MRI tests showed that the Santos forward suffered a grade two muscle injury, indicating that his absence could extend between two to three weeks before returning to competition.
The 34-year-old player will miss the two friendly matches that the Brazilian team will play against Panama and then Egypt on June 6 in Cleveland, USA, which adds to the uncertainty about his readiness to face Morocco on June 13.
Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti had called up Neymar to participate in the 2026 World Cup after a long absence from the national team lasting more than two years, thus bringing the all-time top scorer of the "Seleção" back to the international stage in preparation for his fourth World Cup.
Neymar arrived at the national team's camp in Teresópolis near Rio de Janeiro, but he did not participate in the first training session with his teammates.
The player had also missed the last two matches with Santos, despite his coach Kuka previously confirming that the injury he is suffering from is "minor."
Since returning to Santos at the beginning of 2025, Neymar has faced several recurring physical issues, despite his significant contribution to saving his team from relegation last season.
It is worth noting that Neymar's last appearance in the Brazilian national team jersey was in October 2023, when he suffered a serious knee injury during a match against Uruguay in the World Cup qualifying rounds.
