From Renard's generation to Wahbi's project.. the "Blacks" have changed by 81 percent.
The list of the Moroccan national team participating in the "2026 World Cup," revealed by national coach Mohamed Wahbi yesterday, Tuesday, shows significant changes since the participation in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as the features of the "Atlas Lions" have clearly transformed between the 2018 generation in Russia and Walid Regragui's achievement in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
A comparison of the three rosters revealed that a limited number of players remain in the national team, while prominent names have departed and a new generation has strongly asserted itself in recent years, as part of the project that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation aims to maintain the competitiveness of the "Lions" on a global scale.
Goalkeepers Yassine Bounou, Munir Mohand, and Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti, along with Achraf Hakimi and Sofyan Amrabat, top the list of the most present players with the Moroccan national team between 2018 and 2026, having participated in the World Cup in Russia, then contributed to the historic achievement in Qatar 2022, before continuing their journey in the current roster for the 2026 World Cup.
This quintet is considered the most prominent common denominator among the various generations that have passed through the Moroccan national team in recent years, thanks to the stability in their performance and the experience they have accumulated at the highest levels.
On the other hand, the 2026 edition will see several players participating in their second World Cup with the Moroccan national team, after their debut in the World Cup in Russia 2018 or Qatar 2022. These include Ayoub El Kaabi, Azzedine Ounahi, Nayef Aguerd, Noussair Mazraoui, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, and Bilal El Khannous, names that have become an important part of the current generation of the "Atlas Lions."
These players have stood out significantly in recent years, especially after the strong performances they delivered with their clubs in European leagues, which has allowed them to maintain their positions within the national team in the current project.
