Wahbi reveals details about finalizing the Moroccan national team's roster for the "2026 World Cup."
Mohamed Wahbi, the coach of the Moroccan national football team, confirmed during his discussion about his selections for the final squad participating in the 2026 World Cup that the selection process was not easy, given the short time frame and the numerous names that were considered in recent months.
Wahbi explained during the press conference where the final squad for the World Cup was announced that the camp held in March formed a fundamental basis for evaluating the players; however, he emphasized that the door remained open for all players, stating: “I couldn’t call up 40 players at once.” Therefore, the technical staff was keen to monitor as many names as possible through travels, direct communication, and match observation.
The national coach added that the technical staff “did not leave any player to chance,” confirming that the final list came after a thorough study of all files, especially since the goal was not only to select the best players but also to choose those capable of harmonizing with the playing project that the team aims to implement.
The same speaker pointed out that the last preparatory camp had two main objectives; the first was to maintain the readiness of some players who finished their competitions early, while the second was dedicated to getting to know the players on the preliminary list more deeply and assessing their ability to adapt to the adopted playing style.
Wahbi confirmed that watching players in matches is different from evaluating them within the tactical system of the national team, highlighting that the technical staff came away with many positive impressions after this gathering, whether in terms of discipline, seriousness, or intensity in training, adding: “We had a very good camp on all levels.”
The captain of the "Atlas Lions" also expressed great satisfaction with the atmosphere during the preparations, thanking the players for their commitment and professionalism, before clarifying that some players will be in the final list, while others will continue to wait for their upcoming opportunities with the national team.
