The draw with the Royal Army crowns "Sundowns" with the African Champions League title.
The South African club Mamelodi Sundowns won the African Champions League title this evening, Sunday, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, after drawing 1-1 with the Royal Army team in the second leg of the final.
The representative of South African football benefited from its 1-0 victory in the first leg, finishing the two matches with a total of 1-2, thus achieving the continental title in the heart of the Moroccan capital.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle between the two sides, with open play being the most prominent feature, and it saw two goals scored.
The first goal came in the first half from a penalty kick taken by the captain of the "soldiers," Mohamed Rabi Hrimat, in the 40th minute.
In the 45+7 minute, Teboho Mokoena equalized for the South African team with a powerful shot that left no chance for goalkeeper Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti, ending the first half in a 1-1 draw.
In the second half, the "military" team entered with pressure to score an early goal to restore hope of coming back in the match.
In the 75th minute, a golden opportunity arose for the Royal Army to score the second goal, but Hrimat missed a penalty kick saved by Mamelodi Sundowns' goalkeeper Williams.
Despite the "military" pressure on Sundowns, the score remained unchanged, allowing the South African team to win the African Champions League title.
It is worth noting that today's title is the second for Mamelodi Sundowns in the African Champions League competition, after winning the title in the 2016 edition.
