The Senegalese president praises the royal pardon: "A decision filled with tolerance and humanity."
The Senegalese president, Bassirou Diomai Fay, praised King Mohammed VI's decision to pardon Senegalese fans who were sentenced following the events that occurred during the final of the "Morocco 2025 CAN".
Fay stated in a post on his official account on the "X" platform: "Our citizens who were arrested in Morocco due to the events that took place on the sidelines of the Africa Cup of Nations are now free."
He confirmed that those involved "will soon reunite with their loved ones, thanks to the royal pardon granted by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Eid al-Adha."
The Senegalese president expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to King Mohammed VI for this decision filled with tolerance and humanity.
He emphasized that the royal decision comes "once again" to embody and reinforce the "ancient and deep-rooted" ties that unite Senegal and Morocco.
In the same post, the Senegalese president congratulated King Mohammed VI and all the Moroccan people on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha.
King Mohammed VI granted a pardon to the Senegalese fans who were sentenced for misdemeanors and crimes committed during the Africa Cup of Nations football competitions, which were hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
A statement from the royal palace, issued on Saturday evening, stated: "In light of the historical brotherly relations that unite the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, and on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, graciously bestowed his royal pardon, for humanitarian reasons, on the Senegalese fans sentenced for misdemeanors and crimes committed during the Africa Cup of Nations football competitions, which were hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026."
