Sibari is the best player in the Netherlands.
Moroccan international Ismail Sabiri, star of PSV Eindhoven, has won the "Golden Shoe" for the best player in the Dutch Eredivisie this season, with a significant lead over other competitors, according to a vote by a group of former Dutch national team legends.
This award has been organized for over 40 years by the Dutch newspaper "De Telegraaf," and the jury consists of 35 former international players from various generations, including stars who participated in the World Cup finals in 1974, 1978, and 2010, as well as European champions in 1988.
Sabiri received widespread praise from prominent figures in Dutch football, such as Ruud Gullit, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, and Roy Makaay, who placed him first in their selections.
Former Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk also expressed his great admiration for the levels displayed by the Moroccan international, who is expected to participate with the Moroccan national football team in the 2026 World Cup.
Twenty-seven out of 35 members of the jury voted for Sabiri as the best player in the league, considering him a "complete footballer."
Following him in the rankings were Mika Godts and Joey Veerman, while Ivan Perisic secured fourth place after an outstanding season with Eindhoven.
The list also included Feyenoord striker Ayase Ueda among the top five, having scored 25 goals despite his team's struggles this season.
The "Player of the Year" award in the Dutch league, organized by "De Telegraaf" in collaboration with the Dutch Football Association, is one of the most prestigious individual awards in the Netherlands, dating back to the 1981-1982 season.
After receiving the award, Moroccan international Ismail Sabiri spoke about the significant role played by PSV coach Peter Bosz in his development during the current season, following his win of the "VP Award 2026."
Sabiri stated in an interview with "VoetbalPrimeur" that his coach was a very important element in his career, noting that he always felt Bosz's confidence in him, despite his strictness in dealing.
The Moroccan player explained: "He was very important to me. He always told me that if I played with focus, with a smile, and gave my best, I could reach the top."
He added: "At times, it wasn't like that, and that's why I was sitting on the bench."
