Real Madrid announces the departure of captain Carvajal.
Real Madrid, the second in the Spanish football league, announced the departure of its historic captain, defender Dani Carvajal, at the end of the season, after more than twenty years spent at the club, including thirteen seasons with the first team.
In a statement from the royal club, it said: “Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and love for one of the greatest legends of our club and world football.”
The current Madrid captain has suffered from consecutive injuries since 2024, and he is considered one of the legends and symbols of the Spanish giant, which will conclude its second consecutive season without winning any major title next weekend.
Carvajal, who is 34 years old, will leave Real Madrid as one of the most decorated players in football history with 27 titles, including six UEFA Champions League titles, four La Liga titles, and two Copa del Rey titles.
The Spanish international (52 caps), who also won the European Championship title in 2024, played his 450th match for the royal club on Sunday, which he has represented since 2002, starting with youth teams and then with the first team.
He also played one season with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany between 2012 and 2013.
Real Madrid's president, the only candidate currently for re-election, Florentino Pérez, said: “Dani Carvajal is a legend and a symbol of Real Madrid and its training center.”
The 79-year-old businessman added: “His image alongside our unforgettable Alfredo Di Stéfano laying the foundation stone for Real Madrid's training center will remain forever etched in the hearts of all Madridistas and in the history of our club.”
The club clarified that the right-back will be honored during the last match of the season against Athletic Bilbao next Saturday at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
