"FIFA" welcomes the meeting with the Iranian Federation.
Matthias Grafström, the Secretary General of FIFA, described the meeting in Istanbul with the Iranian Football Federation on Saturday, which aims to ensure Iran's participation in the World Cup taking place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as "very constructive."
Grafström stated in a statement, "Our meeting with the Iranian Football Federation was very constructive. We are working together in close cooperation and look forward to welcoming the Islamic Republic of Iran to the World Cup."
The FIFA representative added, "We were able to discuss some operational matters, as we do with all member federations. I am very pleased with the fruitful discussions we had. Ultimately, both the Iranian Football Federation and FIFA are very satisfied with this meeting and look forward to welcoming the Iranian team in Canada, the United States, and Mexico."
Mehdi Taj, the president of the Iranian Football Federation, stated on Thursday that no entry visas have been issued for the Iranian team so far. The procedures are expected to be completed in Turkey.
Regarding the meeting on Saturday with FIFA, Taj described it as "positive and fruitful."
He confirmed in a statement published by FIFA that "each party was able to express its concerns, while reaffirming its joint commitment to ensuring the participation of the Iranian team in the World Cup."
This meeting, held at the headquarters of the Turkish Football Federation, comes at a time when the Iranian team is preparing to depart on Monday morning to Turkey for a training camp before heading to the United States amid the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington.
Iran hopes to play two friendly matches in Antalya, although only one match has been confirmed so far against Gambia on May 29, according to Sam Mahdizadeh, the Iranian-Canadian who heads a company organizing friendly matches for the team.
After qualifying for the World Cup finals for the fourth consecutive time, Iran will hold its training camp in Tucson, Arizona.
The "Team Melli" will begin its journey in Group G on June 15 in Los Angeles against New Zealand, before facing Belgium on the 21st of the same month, and concluding the group stage against Egypt five days later in Seattle.
