"The Atlas Cubs" clinch a "last-minute victory" against Ethiopia in the African Youth Cup.
The Moroccan U-17 national team turned their deficit into a thrilling victory against their Ethiopian counterpart with a score of two goals to one, on Saturday evening, in a match held at Stadium No. 8 at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, as part of the second round of the group stage of the African U-17 Championship taking place in Morocco.
Both teams entered the match with great caution during the first few minutes, as offensive ventures were absent from both sides, relying instead on gauging each other's strengths, before the subsequent periods saw some attempts that did not pose a real threat to either goal.
As the minutes passed, the Ethiopian team managed to snatch the lead in the 24th minute through player Dawit Kasaw, a goal that instilled confidence in the visitors and allowed them to end the first half ahead by a clean goal, amidst a decline in the offensive performance of the hosts.
In the second half, the Atlas Cubs entered with strength and determination to level the score, as they dominated the flow of the game and applied continuous pressure, which resulted in an equalizing goal in the 49th minute by player Ahmed Moustach.
The Moroccan team intensified their offensive attempts in the final minutes of the match in search of a winning goal to seize the three points, and their attacking persistence paid off with a dramatic goal in the 91st minute by player Imran Talai, who secured the three points for Morocco.
Following this valuable victory, the Moroccan team topped Group A with 4 points, tied with the Egyptian team, while Tunisia occupies third place with one point, ahead of Ethiopia, which has also dropped to the last position with one point.
