Lille coach: "Ayoub's decision is a personal promise."
Bruno Genesio, the coach of French club Lille, confirmed that Ayoub Bouaddi's decision regarding which national team he will represent remains a personal matter, emphasizing that he does not see it as part of his duties to intervene in such choices related to conviction and belonging.
The French coach explained during the press conference preceding his team's match against Auxerre that the choice to wear a specific national team's jersey is tied to the internal feelings of each player, adding that any attempt to influence the decision may be inappropriate in such sensitive cases.
Genesio pointed out that coaches may have their own opinions on these matters, but that does not give them the right to direct players or pressure them, as experience and feelings differ from player to player, especially when it comes to sports identity and international choice.
The Lille coach also revealed that Ayoub Bouaddi, who has previously represented various age groups of the French national team, informed him early on of his final decision on Wednesday, while also confirming that this matter did not affect the player's focus or the atmosphere of the group throughout the season, considering that the final decision remains in the hands of the player regardless of any attempts at persuasion from football federations.
