"Inter Milan" wins the double in Italy.
Inter Milan has been crowned the champion of the Coppa Italia after defeating Lazio 2-0 in the final match today, Wednesday.
Montenegrin Adam Marušić, a Lazio player, scored an own goal to give Inter the lead in the 14th minute, before Argentine Lautaro Martínez added the second goal in the 35th minute.
This victory marks Inter's tenth cup title in its history, just days after winning the Serie A title, achieving the domestic double.
Inter made its way to the final by defeating Como 3-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals, while Lazio overcame Atalanta in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 aggregate draw in the same round.
The "Olimpico" stadium in the Italian capital was filled with an enthusiastic atmosphere from both teams' fans, and although Lazio played on their usual home ground, the advantage was in favor of Inter, who imposed their control early on.
Inter successfully translated their advantage into the first goal in the 14th minute, when Dimarco executed a corner kick into the penalty area, which hit the head of defender Adam Marušić and settled in the net.
The early goal affected Lazio's players, who tried to regain their balance, while Inter continued to press in search of extending their lead.
In the 35th minute, Inter capitalized on a defensive error resulting from their high press, as Dutchman Denzel Dumfries broke free and passed the ball to Lautaro Martínez in front of the goal, who had no difficulty in putting it in the net.
The Argentine international increased his tally as the third all-time top scorer for Inter Milan with 175 goals in all competitions, closing in on Alessandro Altobelli, who is second with 209 goals.
In the second half, Lazio attempted to come back, despite the absence of their coach Maurizio Sarri due to suspension, as he watched the match from the stands. The team made several attacking substitutions, bringing on Senegalese Boulaye Dia, Matteo Cancellieri, and veteran Spaniard Pedro, but these changes did not alter the course of the match.
Inter maintained control in midfield, limiting Lazio's threat to goalkeeper Martínez's goal, allowing coach Cristian Chivu's team to hold onto their lead until the final whistle.
With this victory, Inter avenged their loss to Lazio in the 1999-2000 final, when the latter won 2-1 on aggregate in a two-legged format.
