The death of Clark saddens American basketball.
The NBA announced today, Tuesday, the death of Brandon Clarke, a forward for the Memphis Grizzlies, at the age of 29.
The Grizzlies team and the agency "Priority Sports," responsible for the player, did not provide any immediate details about the time, place, or manner of Brandon Clarke's death; however, his agents expressed their deep shock through posts on social media.
Clarke was arrested on April 1st in Arkansas for speeding and possession of a controlled substance, reportedly "kratom"; a herbal supplement promoted as an alternative for pain relief and allowed to be possessed in Tennessee, before being released on bail a day after the incident.
Clarke began his career in the NBA in 2019 with the Oklahoma City Thunder before moving to the Grizzlies. He also joined the All-Star team in 2020.
Clarke suffered from increasing injuries, as he tore his Achilles tendon in March 2023. The recurring injuries limited his participation, as he played only 72 games out of a possible 246 over the past three seasons; including just two games in the current season.
