Five-way battle for the Moroccan league title.
The curtain fell yesterday, Monday, on the matches of the 20th round of the "Inwi" professional league in its first division, marking the beginning of the countdown among the competing teams for the title, as well as the battle to avoid relegation to the second division for the teams positioned at the bottom of the standings.
At the top of the table sits FUS Rabat with 41 points, achieved from 11 wins, 8 draws, and 1 loss, thus announcing itself as a strong contender for this year's title. The same applies to the Royal Army team, which continues to shine locally by occupying second place with a one-point difference, and regionally by qualifying for the final of the African Champions League, where it will face South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in a heated clash.
Not far from the top, Raja Casablanca is in third place, two points behind the leader. Despite stumbling in the derby and quickly losing the first position, their chances remain alive among the group of competitors for the championship trophy.
After the top three, both Wydad Casablanca and RS Berkane share fourth place with 37 points, four points behind the leader.
Despite the negative results they have endured, Wydad's recent victory in the derby may provide them with a morale boost to compete for the title until the last moment. The same applies to last season's champion, RS Berkane, which, despite fluctuating results this season, still has a chance to retain the title.
At the bottom of the standings, the gap does not exceed 10 points between the last-placed Ittihad Tawraka and the ninth-placed Nahda Zemamra, making the specter of relegation loom over several clubs.
Ittihad Tawraka is at the bottom of the league with 13 points, having achieved only one victory, 10 draws, and 9 losses, making their task of staying among the elite difficult, especially if negative results continue with the ongoing matches.
Not far from the Tawraka team, Olympique Safi (15th place) has 14 points. Despite their continental success this season by reaching the semi-finals of the African Confederation Cup, stability is lacking in the "Safi Shark's" local results, placing them among the teams threatened with leaving the league.
For its part, the Ittihad Riadi Yaacoub Al-Mansour team remains among the teams struggling at the bottom of the table. The capital team, despite a positive start in the second half of the season, has not yet escaped the danger of returning to the second division.
In the same vein, Olympique Dcheira is also struggling among the teams threatened with relegation, along with Hassania Agadir, Ittihad Tangier, Marrakech's Kawkab, and Nahda Zemamra, which, although outside the relegation zones, remain at risk of losing their positions among the elite if they do not correct their course.
