Onahi stirs controversy with Girona in Spain.
The Spanish newspaper "AS" highlighted the situation of Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi at Girona, amid a decline in his impact during recent matches, despite continued interest from several European clubs in his services and the approaching World Cup.
The newspaper pointed out that Girona fans have started to express concern about Ounahi's performance, as his influence on the team's collective play has decreased recently, especially during the three consecutive defeats that have complicated the club's situation in the fight for survival in La Liga.
The same source indicated that coach Michel Sanchez still places his full trust in the Moroccan player, considering that Ounahi is capable of making a difference when he is in his best physical and mental condition, which he demonstrated in several strong matches this season against top teams in "La Liga."
"AS" added that some criticisms have been directed at Ounahi for sometimes leaning towards individual play and being absent from the team's rhythm, especially against mid-level and lower teams, despite his contribution this season with five goals and three assists.
The Spanish newspaper confirmed that Ounahi aims to regain his best form before the 2026 World Cup, especially after the injury that kept him out of the last edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, which makes it essential for him to lead Girona in the remaining four rounds against Rayo Vallecano, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, and Elche.
"AS" concluded its report by noting that the Moroccan international's brilliance has brought his name back to the attention of several European clubs, especially since the release clause in his contract, which extends until 2030, does not exceed 20 million euros, an amount the newspaper described as "affordable" for clubs looking to sign him.
