Wydad secures the "derby" with a clean goal and reduces the gap with Raja in the league.
Wydad Athletic Club defeated their traditional rival Raja Casablanca with a score of one goal to nil in the "Casablanca derby" held today at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, as part of the 20th round of the professional football league.
The first half started with a back-and-forth battle between the two sides, where Raja dominated most of the phases, while Wydad relied on defensive caution and quick counterattacks.
In the 39th minute, Congolese player Joseph Bakasso managed to open the scoring for the "red" team with a powerful shot that left no chance for Raja's goalkeeper Mehdi Harar; thus, the first half ended with Wydad leading by a single goal.
In the second half, Raja entered with full pressure in search of an equalizer, while Wydad remained true to their solid defensive approach, betting on counterattacks to enhance their lead.
Despite the multiple opportunities available to both sides, the score remained unchanged until the final whistle, announcing Wydad's victory over Raja by one goal to nil.
With this important victory, Wydad Athletic Club raised their points tally to 37, placing them fourth, while Raja's points remained at 39, temporarily keeping them at the top of the standings.
