The Arbitration Directorate adopts a digital platform.
Ridwan Jid, the director of the National Refereeing Directorate, revealed a set of updates related to the development of the Moroccan refereeing system, confirming a clear improvement in the accuracy of refereeing decisions during the current football season, alongside the gradual adoption of new techniques within the professional league competitions.
Jid explained, during a communication meeting with the media, that the directorate has adopted a specialized digital platform this season to analyze referees' performance after each match, where referees, assistant referees, and VAR operators are required to conduct a self-evaluation of refereeing situations immediately after the matches, as part of a project aimed at improving performance and reducing the margin of errors.
The director of the National Refereeing Directorate confirmed that the new platform is used by many leagues and football federations around the world, noting that Morocco is among the major leagues benefiting from this system; which has allowed for the provision of an accurate database regarding refereeing decisions related to penalty kicks, red cards, and VAR interventions.
Jid added that the figures recorded this season showed a clear increase in the percentage of correct decisions, both for direct red card cases and VAR interventions, highlighting that the accuracy of VAR decisions related to penalty kicks reached about 90 percent; which he considered a positive indicator of the development of Moroccan refereeing.
Among the most notable updates announced by Ridwan Jid is the experimental adoption of the "referee camera" during the derby match between Raja Casablanca and Wydad Casablanca, scheduled for the twentieth round of the professional league to be held this weekend; in a step aimed at bringing fans and followers closer to the way referees operate on the field.
The meeting also included detailed explanations regarding the operation of the VAR technology, especially concerning offside situations, penalty kicks, and goals, where it was confirmed that the adopted protocol is based on the principle of "minimal intervention for maximum benefit," aiming to maintain the pace of matches and reduce long stoppages.
Jid pointed out that the directorate continues to work on developing the training and technical analysis of referees, through weekly meetings and the new digital platform, alongside digitizing several administrative aspects related to appointments, evaluations, and physical tests.
The director of the National Refereeing Directorate concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the development of Moroccan refereeing remains an open project, highlighting that the current results reflect the beginning of a positive development compared to previous seasons, with ongoing efforts to further enhance the quality of refereeing decisions within the professional league.
