Al Ain team wins the UAE league title.
Al Ain was crowned the UAE Pro League champion for the fifteenth time in its history after a resounding 5-0 victory over its host, Sharjah, on Wednesday in the conclusion of the twenty-fourth round.
Guinean Abdou Karim Traoré (10), Togolese Kodjo Laba (15), Eric de Menezes (51), Moroccan Sofiane Rahimi (54), and Egyptian Rami Rabia (63) scored the goals for Al Ain.
Al Ain raised its tally to 62 points at the top, six points ahead of its pursuer, Shabab Al Ahli.
Al Ain needed the win to clinch the title two rounds before the end of the championship for the first time since 2022 and to enhance its record with the fifteenth title, and it got what it wanted after achieving the largest victory over Sharjah in the history of the encounters between the two teams.
Al Ain took the lead with two goals in the first quarter of an hour through headers from Traoré (10) and Laba (15).
They added the third after a solo run from de Menezes following a long pass from Rabia (51), then the fourth three minutes later with a low shot from Rahimi (54).
The outstanding Rabia concluded the scoring festival with the fifth goal, a deceptive header into the net of goalkeeper Adel Al Hosani, benefiting from a corner taken by Argentine Matías Palacios (63).
Rahimi said, “Despite our five-goal victory over Sharjah, the championship throughout the season was not easy, and we deserved to be crowned champions of the strongest league, and now we look forward to the double,” noting that Al Ain will play against Al Jazira in the cup final on May 20.
Shabab Al Ahli defeated their guest Al Nasr with two goals from Brazilian Matheus Lima (39) and Yuri Cesar (90 from a penalty), against a goal from Argentine Ramon Meires (28).
Al Wasl climbed to third place with a victory over its host Al Wahda with three goals scored by Colombian Miguel Borja (5), Nicolás Jiménez (55), and substitute Fabio Lima (90+7) from two penalties, against two goals from Argentine Facundo Daniel (35) and substitute Syrian Omar Khribin (65 from a penalty).
Al Wasl raised its tally to 42 points, while Al Wahda remained fifth with 39 points.
