Ziyech leads Wydad to victory over "Kodim" and secures fourth place in the league.
The Wydad Athletic Club decisively faced the Meknes Club with a score of two goals to none, in a match that took place on Wednesday evening at the stadium of the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, as part of the nineteenth round of the professional league, in a game that saw the brilliance of Hakim Ziyech.
The beginning of the match saw clear pressure from Wydad, which pushed towards the goal of its guest in search of an early goal, while the Meknes Club contented itself with retreating and relying on counter-attacks.
In the ninth minute, the red team suffered a painful blow after their Brazilian player Ferreira was injured; this forced the coach to substitute him with Ayman El Wafi, in an early change that somewhat disrupted the balance of the team.
Wydad's pressure continued until they managed to break through the Meknes defense in the twenty-second minute, through Hakim Ziyech, who unleashed a powerful shot from a direct free kick outside the penalty area, finding the net to announce the opening goal.
The guests tried to come back into the game during the remaining stages of the first half, where Mohamed Zainaf's header nearly equalized after it passed just beside the goal. Zohair Al-Dib also threatened Wydad's goal with a powerful shot that went just over the crossbar.
In stoppage time, the referee awarded a penalty to Wydad after the striker Hamza Al-Hanouri was fouled by the goalkeeper Ayman Majid; a decision that sparked strong protests from the Meknes players.
Hakim Ziyech successfully executed the penalty, adding the second goal for his team; thus, Wydad ended the first half leading with a clean two-goal advantage, confirming their superiority in the course of the match.
During the second half, the coaches of both teams made several substitutions to inject new energy, as the Meknes Club appeared with a different face, being more eager to reduce the deficit, with a relative possession of the ball, while Wydad retreated and relied on counter-attacks.
