Lamine Yamal is gradually returning to the pitch.
The young star Lamine Yamal has taken a significant step in his recovery journey after returning to on-field training at his team, FC Barcelona.
Yamal is undergoing an intensive rehabilitation program after suffering a muscle tear last April, while Luis de la Fuente, the coach of the Spanish national team, hopes that the young winger will play a pivotal role in the 2026 World Cup.
According to the Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, Yamal has returned to on-field training as part of his recovery from injury in Barcelona, adding that he has started doing individual training on the field at the club's training complex, after previously training in the gym during the early stages of his rehabilitation.
Yamal suffered a partial tear in the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg on April 22.
Barcelona chose to follow a conservative treatment plan instead of undergoing surgery, meaning Yamal will miss the remaining matches of the Spanish league this season. However, his return to field training has provided both the player and his national team with a significant morale boost as preparations continue for the upcoming World Cup.
De la Fuente clarified that Yamal remains an important part of Spain's plans if he receives medical clearance in time for the tournament.
It is worth noting that the Spanish national team, which dreams of winning the World Cup for the second time after the 2010 edition in South Africa, is in Group H during the group stage of the World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada this summer, alongside teams from Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde, and Uruguay.
