Mourinho denies contacting Real Madrid.
Benfica's coach, José Mourinho, confirmed on Friday that there has been no communication between him and Real Madrid, despite speculation about the possibility of the Spanish giant seeking his services this summer.
Mourinho, 63, whose name is on the list of candidates for the royal club to hire a new coach, told reporters: "No one from Real Madrid has spoken to me. I can guarantee you that."
The veteran coach, who led "Los Blancos" between 2010 and 2013 in a fierce competition with Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, added: "I have been in the world of football for many years, and I am used to such matters... but there is nothing from Real Madrid."
It seems that the current Real Madrid coach, Álvaro Arbeloa, is on his way out, as the team is set to finish a second consecutive season without winning any major titles.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez appointed Arbeloa in January to replace Xabi Alonso, who only stayed in the position for a few months.
Real Madrid is trailing 11 points behind their traditional rival Barcelona, the defending champion and league leader, with five matches remaining, and they were eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Champions League by German side Bayern Munich.
Mourinho, who led Real Madrid to the league title in 2012, continued: "I have one year left on my contract with Benfica, and that's all," noting that his team was eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid in the qualifying round for the knockout stage last February.
