African consensus to support Infantino
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed its unified position regarding the presidency of FIFA, after all member associations announced their support for the re-election of Gianni Infantino for a new term extending from 2027 to 2031.
This decision came during an official meeting hosted by Vancouver, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the FIFA Congress, in a step that reflects the unity of the African position and its weight within the wheels of global football decision-making.
This collective support is seen as a strong message from the African continent, which seeks to strengthen its presence and influence within FIFA, especially in light of the major challenges and stakes that await global football in the coming years.
This consensus also enhances Infantino's chances of continuing to head the highest football body in the world, benefiting from a broad support base, especially from African federations, which play an important role in the elections.
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and Aleksander Ceferin, President of the European Football Association (UEFA), signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation and developing football across the continents of Europe and Africa.
CAF said in a statement on its official website that the memorandum of understanding signed in the Canadian city of Vancouver affirms the common guidelines between the African and European Football Confederations, highlighting the role of the game in promoting inclusion, participation and social cohesion, and reaffirming the shared commitment to solidarity, integrity and openness.
