Moroccan athletics compete in Tunisia
The Arab Athletics Championship for young men and women under 20 years of age began yesterday, Sunday, on the outskirts of the Tunisian capital, with the participation of athletes from 14 countries, including Morocco.
Moroccan athletics is represented in the 21st session of this Arab competition, which was included in the international calendar to qualify for the World Championships, with an athletic delegation that includes 18 young women and 13 young men.
The Moroccan delegation participating in the tournament learned that a number of Moroccan participants had achieved numbers prior to this tournament that qualified them to compete in the international competition expected next summer in the United States of America.
The Arab Athletics Federation confirmed that the Arab Championship represents a great value for Arab athletics and an important station for male and female athletes to obtain the qualifying numbers for the World Championships for young men and women. It is also an opportunity for qualified athletes to gain competitive technical readiness before the world championship.
The Arab Championship competitions, which will continue until April 30 at the Rades Athletics Stadium, began before the opening ceremony with the 5,000-meter walking race, which was won by Tunisian Mohamed Amin Al-Nuaji, as well as the heptathlon competition, in which Moroccan Kawthar Marzak competed.
In addition to Morocco; Tunisia, Algeria, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Sudan, Bahrain, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon and the UAE are participating in the Arab Championship for under 20 years.
Moroccan athletics won one gold medal, three silver medals, and three bronze medals on the first day of the Arab Championship competitions for men and women under 20 years old, yesterday, Sunday.
Maria Al-Saadi won the gold medal in the long jump, while Ghaitha Mbtisam came in third place to win a bronze, and in the male long jump competition, the silver medal went to Yassin Marreish.
In the male 3000-meter race, Moroccan Mohammed Al-Muslat ranked second (silver), followed by his compatriot Abdel Hakam Bouhou (bronze), while the same scenario was repeated in the female 3000-meter race, where Al-Zuhairi Shaima won the silver medal and Ahlam Al-Qadouri won the bronze medal.
