Moroccan football is shining among African clubs
The Royal Army Football Club continues its distinguished path after qualifying for the final of the African Champions League, confirming its strong return to the continental front, while Olympique Safi marked its distinguished first participation in African club competitions, by reaching the semi-finals of the African Confederation Cup.
Thus, โAl-Zaeemโ booked a transit visa to the final scene of the African Champions League competition, despite his loss (1-0) in the return match against RS Berkane, which took place on Saturday evening on the grounds of the municipal stadium in Berkane.
Thanks to its victory in the first leg (2-0), the Royal Army was able to maintain its advantage in the aggregate of the two matches, showing great control and experience that enabled it to reach the final of the most prestigious African club competition.
This qualification has a special character for the โmilitariesโ, as the Royal Army remains the first Moroccan team to win the African Champions League in 1985, and after forty years it returns to be again in the position of competing for the continental title, and is pursuing another historical achievement, with the ambition of restoring its glories and consolidating the position of Moroccan clubs on the African level.
In the final, the Royal Army will face the South African team, Mamelodi Sundowns, who qualified at the expense of Esperance of Tunisia after defeating them (2-0) on aggregate in the two-legged matches.
The South African team is a strong opponent thanks to its stability and experience at the highest African levels, but it will clash with an organized and experienced Moroccan team in major matches.
It is expected that the first leg will be held on May 15 in Pretoria, followed by the return match on May 24 on the grounds of Prince Moulay Abdullah Stadium in Rabat, where it is expected to be a strong confrontation between two ambitious teams seeking to write their names in the record of winners.
As for the Olympique Safi team, it left the continental competitions with its head held high, after marking a distinguished first participation by reaching the semi-finals of the African Confederation Cup. The Mesfioui team faced Algeria's USM Algiers, where the return match ended in a draw (1-1) after a goalless draw in the first leg, a result that was not enough to reach the final.
Despite the exclusion, this participation is an important experience for Olympique Safi, which has demonstrated its ability to compete continentally, as this positive path reflects the clubโs development and opens promising horizons for its future African participations.
