Bayern Munich continues to dominate in Germany
Bayern Munich won the German Football League (Bundesliga) title yesterday, Sunday, raising its tally to 13 titles in the last 14 years, after a busy season, and it has an opportunity to achieve more.
The Bundesliga title remains the first step in Bayern's quest to win the treble, as Bayern will face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final on Wednesday, before meeting defending champion Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final.
The German League title is the least of Bayern's goals this season, after it strengthened its record by winning the league championship for the 35th time in its history, as it achieved its first title in 1932 while the tournament was held in a knockout round system among the regional champions, while the rest of the titles came after the establishment of the โBundesligaโ league in 1963.
Bayern Munich dominated domestically to a great extent, but Bayer Leverkusen's crowning of the German League in 2024 was a surprise that prompted the Bavarian giant to win the title twice in a row, starting a series that may extend for many years.
Bayern recovered after the shock of 2012 when it lost the Champions League final in Munich to Chelsea of England, in addition to the league and German Cup final to its direct competitor Borussia Dortmund, to crown the following year 2013 with a historic treble under the leadership of coach Jupp Heynckes, namely the Champions League, the league and the German Cup.
Bayern Munich broke its record in the German League for the largest number of goals scored in one season, by scoring 5 goals against St. Pauli, raising its score to 105 goals in the last round, and Bayern broke its previous record by scoring 101 goals in the 1971/1972 season in the presence of its stars Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Muller.
English striker Harry Kane scored in a 4-2 win over Stuttgart yesterday, Sunday, raising Bayern's tally to 109 goals, and they can move further away with a new record with four rounds remaining.
Kane raised his tally with his German club this season to 50 goals by scoring against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, and his tally reached 51 goals in all competitions, including 32 goals in 27 matches in the German League.
Newcomer Luis Diaz also contributed with 15 goals, and Michael Oliseh with 12 goals, but Bayern Munich's goals came at the feet of players in other positions, as midfielder Leon Goretzka scored the 102nd goal against St. Pauli, breaking the old record.
In addition to the four-way win over Stuttgart, Bayern scored 4 or more goals in 14 league matches, starting with a landslide victory over Leipzig, 6-0, in the first round.
