CAF praises the achievement of the Royal Army
The official website of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) devoted important space to the Royal Army's qualification to the CAF Champions League final, after defeating Ennahdha Volcanic on aggregate in the two semi-final matches with a score of 2-1, despite losing the second leg by an unanswered goal.
โCAFโ indicated, in its report, that the victory of the Royal Army in the first leg with two goals to none was the decisive factor in deciding the pass, after Yassine El-Behairyโs goal from a penalty kick was not enough to turn the tables in the return match in the city of Berkane.
The highest football authority in the African continent stressed that the โMilitaryโ team reached the final for the first time in its history under the current competition system, writing a new page in its continental record, recalling that it had previously won the African Champion Clubs Cup title in the 1984-1985 season.
The report stated that RS Berkane entered the confrontation with strong determination in order to compensate for the loss of the first leg, and succeeded in imposing continuous pressure on its opponentโs defence. However, the defensive organization of the Royal Army prevented additional goals from being scored.
The same source highlighted the great role played by goalkeeper Ahmed Reda Al-Taknaouti, after he excelled on more than one occasion and contributed with his decisive interventions to maintain his teamโs advantage during the match.
The report stated that the Royal Army has become the third Moroccan club to reach the CAF Champions League final, after both Raja and Wydad Athletic Club, in a new confirmation of the strong presence of Moroccan clubs on the continent.
The official website of the Confederation of African Football concluded by confirming that the Royal Army will face the South African club Mamelodi Sundowns in the final, at an expected date during which the Moroccan football representative seeks to continue the journey and ascend to the continental podium.
