Morocco releases two Senegalese and an Algerian
Three Senegalese fans were released in Morocco, today, Saturday, after serving a three-month prison sentence for their participation in the violence that occurred during the African Cup of Nations final.
The three men left “Al-Arjat 2” prison, located northeast of the capital, Rabat, on board a Royal Gendarmerie vehicle, heading to a police station near Salé, before they were released.
Upon their exit from the police station, the three Senegalese fans were greeted by members of the Senegalese Embassy.
One of them said in a statement to Agence France-Presse upon his exit: “Dima Morocco, Dima Morocco,” which is a phrase in the Moroccan dialect that means “Long live Morocco.”
In the context of the same case, 15 other Senegalese fans are serving prison sentences ranging from six months to a year, which were confirmed last Monday in the appeal stage.
They were convicted on riot-related charges, including acts of violence against security forces, vandalizing sports equipment, storming the playing field, and throwing projectiles.
Today, Saturday, a French citizen of Algerian origin was also released after serving a 3-month prison sentence, in connection with the same events at Prince Moulay Abdullah Stadium.
