CAF checks the strength of the Royal Army
An official report issued by the Confederation of African Football confirmed that the victory of the Royal Army over RS โโBerkane with two unanswered goals, in the first leg of the African Champions League semi-final, was not the result of a coincidence, but was supported by numbers and statistics that reflect the clear superiority of the โmilitary team.โ
The report explained that the Royal Army continued its positive streak in the competition, after raising the number of its matches without defeat to eight consecutive matches (4 victories and 4 draws), while maintaining remarkable defensive solidity, as it did not concede more than one goal in any match during this series.
CAF data highlighted the teamโs defensive strength, as it is one of the clubs that has kept the most clean sheets this season with 5 โclean sheetsโ matches, equaling the record of Stade Mali, in a clear indication of its balance and tactical discipline.
On the other hand, RS Berkane continued to suffer outside its field, after losing three of its last four matches outside its home base in the competition, without being able to score any goal in those defeats, which reflects the limited attacking effectiveness away from its field.
The numbers also revealed the absolute control of the Royal Army over the phases of the match, as the Berkane team did not score its first shot until the 49th minute, which is its longest wait for a first shot in a Champions League match, which highlights the amount of pressure imposed by the hosts.
At the level of individual achievements, Ahmed Hammoudan continued his brilliance, after scoring two goals in the last three matches, surpassing his previous tally, which did not exceed one goal in his first 14 appearances in the competition, while Khaled Ait and Arkhan left their mark on a goal from the bench, confirming the effectiveness of alternative solutions within the team.
The report concluded by noting that substitute goals have become an important weapon for the Royal Army this season, as the team scored two goals through reserve players, while Tunisian club Esperance leads this standings with three goals.
These numbers reflect a clear advantage for the Royal Army before the return match scheduled for next Saturday in Berkane, while RS Berkane will require a strong reaction if it wants to turn the tables and revive its chances of reaching the final.
