Arsenal faces Atletico in the European Champions League
English Arsenal continued its dream of winning the Champions League title for the first time in its history, after qualifying for the semi-finals in the continental competition for the second edition in a row.
Arsenal tied 0-0 with its guest, Sporting Lisbon of Portugal, this evening, Wednesday, in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the most important and strongest tournament at the club level in the Old Continent.
The players of both teams were unable to score throughout the two halves of the match, which was held at the Emirates Stadium in the British capital, London, after wasting many opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, so Arsenal won the ticket to the semi-finals.
Arsenal benefited from its 1-0 victory at Sporting Stadium in the first leg, which was held in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, to set up a semi-final match with Spain's Atletico Madrid, which ousted its compatriot Barcelona in the quarter-finals as well.
The first leg is scheduled to be held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, on April 29, while the return match will take place in London on May 5.
The final match will be held at the Puskas Arena in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, on May 30.
Arsenal's qualification to the Champions League semi-finals gives Spanish coach Mikel Arteta's team a strong boost before the expected confrontation against Manchester City, next Sunday, at the Etihad Stadium in the English Premier League, in a match that may be decisive in determining the features of the title competition in the coming weeks.
Arsenal leads the standings by 6 points in front of its closest competitor, Manchester City, which still has a game in hand.
