An initiative that mixes challenge with heritage in Fez
Yesterday, Sunday, more than 3,000 runners, both male and female, participated in the second edition of the Spiritual Marathon of Fez, a sporting event that combines sporting challenge with the heritage dimension.
The program of this sports event, organized by the Al-Dalaa Sports Association of Fass under the supervision of the governorate of the Fez-Meknes region, included marathon races, a half marathon, and a 10-kilometre race, in addition to races for children.
At the conclusion of this sports competition, which was characterized by the participation of professional runners, amateurs and occasional practitioners, the marathon race was won by the Kenyan runner, Eriklion Ndima, achieving a time of two hours, 20 minutes and 10 seconds, followed by Moroccan Ezzedine Pharaon, who came second with a time of two hours, 20 minutes and 59 seconds.
Among females, Moroccan Hanan Kallouj won the race with a time of two hours, 45 minutes and 46 seconds, followed in second place by Hanan El-Bedjaoui with a time of two hours, 53 minutes and 46 seconds.
In the half marathon race, the first place went to contestant Hisham Wasmi with a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 32 seconds, followed by Youssef Mufidi, who came in second with a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 33 seconds.
Among females, Fatima Al-Zahraa Al-Raki won first place with a time of 1 hour, 18 minutes and 23 seconds, followed by Freddy Sakina, who came in second with a time of 1 hour, 22 minutes and 3 seconds.
In the 10-kilometre race, Anwar Al-Zaghari was crowned in the male category, while the female title went to contestant Hadri Omaima.
In a press statement, the head of the Al-Dalaa Sports Association Al-Fassi, Abderrahim Bouramdane, confirmed that this sporting event achieved great success and was characterized by intense competition among the participants who came from various Moroccan cities.
Bouramadan added that the sport of athletics, especially the marathon, has become increasingly interested in various age groups because of its many health benefits, stressing in this regard the importance of encouraging young people to practice sports.
The winner of the marathon race, Kenyan Eriklion Ndiema, also expressed his great happiness with this achievement, which witnessed “competition” and great competition between the competitors, praising in the same context the quality of the race track and the good organization of this sporting event.
The winner of the half marathon race, Hisham Wasmi, praised the good organization of this sporting event, which was characterized by the participation of a group of strong runners and the intense competition among the participants.
