Nepet in the historical collection of A Coruña
The former captain of the national team, Noureddine Naybet, was chosen among the historic “ideal squad” of Deportivo La Coruna, according to a classification prepared by the prestigious Spanish sports newspaper “Marca.”
This coronation comes within the framework of a broad, retrospective initiative launched by the Spanish League, where the majority of professional clubs have adopted classic shirts to celebrate their football heritage.
The Moroccan defender, who marked a remarkable path at the Riazor Stadium during the period between 1996 and 2004, is considered one of the most prominent pillars of the golden era in the history of the Galician club.
“Marca” believes that Al-Naybet embodies the rigor and defensive elegance that enabled “Super Depor” to break the dominance of the major Spanish clubs, especially during the historic crowning of the league title in the 1999-2000 season. His inclusion on this list, alongside prominent names such as Bebeto and Mauro Silva, confirms his status as one of the most prominent football icons.
This initiative, which included 39 out of 42 teams in the first and second divisions, with the exception of Real Madrid, Getafe and Rayo Vallecano, highlights the most prominent formations that have marked the history of Spanish football.
Thus, Noureddine Naybet’s name is associated with a group of international football stars who shined in the Spanish League, such as Di Stefano, Cruyff, Zidane, Ronaldinho and Kempes, which reflects the distinction of his professional path in European stadiums.
In addition to this individual honor, this squad recalls the golden era of Deportivo La Coruna, where Naybet was the undisputed leader of the defense line, having played nearly 300 matches in the team’s blue and white colors.
Not only did the former Moroccan international win the league title, but he also won the Spanish King's Cup in an immortal edition, in addition to two Spanish Super Cup titles, and led his team to the semi-finals of the Champions League, immortalizing his name in the club's history.
