A Moroccan summit between the army and Nahdet Berkane
The attention of football fans in Africa in general, and Morocco in particular, is directed towards the burning confrontation that will bring together the teams of the Royal Army and RS Berkane, as each of them seeks to reserve a ticket to the final of the African Football Champions League, in a match with a continental dimension and with a pure Moroccan touch.
This Moroccan-Moroccan football match, the first of which will take place tomorrow evening, Saturday, on the grounds of Prince Moulay Abdullah Stadium in Rabat, promises a strong confrontation between two of the most prominent Moroccan football clubs, which is heightened by the value of the decisive continental bet and the common ambition of both teams to win the honor of representing Moroccan football in the final scene.
From this standpoint, both parties, which are going through a prosperous period in their path, are fueling great African ambitions to establish their names on the continent, after they have built a good reputation for themselves at the local level.
Armed with an experienced squad whose performance has improved significantly, the military team seeks to update its continental record, which is studded with the African Cup of Champion Clubs title (the old version of the Champions League) in 1985, and the African Confederation Cup title in 2005.
After playing the first rounds in the national championship, by winning the title (2022-2023 season) and ending a 15-year waiting period, and occupying runner-up in the league in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons, the current generation will be keen to win the precious continental title, and forget about its first attempt in the 2024-2025 edition, which stopped at the quarter-final station against the Egyptian “Pyramids”. (He was crowned champion at the time).
On the other hand, the capital club will face an opponent with whom it shares the same ambitions, but it relies on more modern references, and is followed by the ambition of investing in its winning dynamism to snatch its first title in the Champions League.
The “Orange Team”, which is participating in its first participation in this competition, after winning the first national championship title in its history last season 2024-2025, enters the midst of these competitions bearing the status of a new football force that seeks to overturn the existing balances.
In contrast to the Royal Army Club, which has a long and ancient history, the Orange team has emerged strongly during the last decade, especially in the Throne Cup competitions with three titles (2018, 2021, 2022), and especially in the Confederation Cup, which it became one of its loyal customers in a short time, achieving three titles (2019-20, 2021-22, 2024-25) and competing in two finals. (2018-19, 2023-24).
