The CAF President promises to abide by TAS's decisions and rejects Senegal's accusations of corruption
The President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, from the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maamoura, affirmed the continental institution’s commitment to respecting the laws and regulations in force, especially with regard to the cases presented to the Court of Arbitration for Sport “Al-Tas”, stressing the need to respect the independence of this body and not comment on its legal processes.
Motsepe explained that the Confederation of African Football relies in all its decisions on careful legal consultation, to avoid any potential impact on the ongoing issues, stressing that the primary goal is to protect the integrity of competitions and the image of African football and the 54 member states within the organization.
In a related context, the President of the Confederation of African Football singled out Morocco with clear praise, considering that it plays a pivotal role in supporting the path of reform within African football, whether at the infrastructure level or by contributing to the development of the financial and regulatory system.
Motsepe revealed that the Confederation witnessed an important financial transformation during the recent period, as it moved from a deficit of approximately 100 million dollars to a surplus of approximately 150 million dollars, which was reflected in raising the value of financial awards and expanding development programs within the African continent.
The same spokesman added that this transformation was not the result of coincidence, but rather the result of gradual reforms that included improving governance, enhancing transparency, and developing management mechanisms, noting that a number of partners contributed to this success, including Morocco.
Regarding the technical aspects, the President of the Confederation of African Football indicated that there is progress in developing arbitration and the organizational structure, despite some challenges related to the cessation or non-continuation of some previous partnerships that supported training and supervision programmes.
On the other hand, Motsepe sent strong messages regarding the accusations against the Confederation of corruption, stressing that he was “tired” of repeating the allegations that he described as “false and unfounded,” and stressing that he would not continue to respond to them repeatedly.
The same spokesman called on anyone who has serious data or accusations to go directly to the judiciary instead of being satisfied with media statements, stating that he does not fear these paths, but rather encourages them as a means to enhance transparency and reveal the truth.
