Motsepe in Senegal due to the “CAN” crisis
Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, is preparing for an official visit to Senegal tomorrow, Wednesday, where he will hold discussions with the country's President Basserou Diomaye Faye, and also meet with officials of the Senegalese Football Federation.
This visit comes in light of the African Confederation's follow-up of developments in the last edition of the African Cup of Nations, which witnessed widespread controversy after the final match.
Motsepe's move came after the Confederation of Confederation's Appeals Committee decided to withdraw the African Cup title from the Senegalese team and considered it defeated by the Moroccan team, following the withdrawal of its players and coach, which prompted the Senegalese Federation to resort to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to appeal the decision.
It is expected that the visit will constitute an opportunity to discuss the repercussions of this file on the African arena, and work to find mechanisms to maintain the stability of continental competitions, while enhancing cooperation between the Confederation and the Senegalese Federation.
The Confederation of African Football did not reveal additional details about the visit’s programme, saying only that it would be announced later, in coordination with the Senegalese Football Federation, at a time when everyone is awaiting the outcome of this visit and its impact on the crisis related to the final of the African Cup of Nations.
