A wrong contract raises Diop's salary in Nice
French press reports revealed an exciting incident within the Nice club, its Moroccan international hero Sofiane Diop, who became the highest-paid player in the team due to an unexpected administrative error during the signing of his contract.
According to what was reported by the French website “L’Equipe”, Diop receives a monthly salary of up to 350,000 euros (gross), topping the team’s salary list, and with a large difference from his closest colleague, Mohamed Ali Shaw, who earns only about 220,000 euros.
The newspaper “Nice-Matin” explained that this large difference is due to an error that occurred during the drafting of the contract when Diop moved from Monaco to Nice in 2022 for 22 million euros.
Instead of listing the agreed-upon salaries in a gross “brut” format, they were recorded in the contract in a “net” format, which automatically led to an increase in the real cost to the club by about 20%.
In light of this situation, and with the “Ineos” group that owns the club moving towards reducing its investments and searching for a new buyer, Nice is seeking to reduce the wage block during the upcoming summer transfer period.
Diop is among the most prominent names nominated to leave the team, along with a number of players with high salaries, in an attempt to restore financial balance within the club.
The case highlights an apparently simple administrative error, but it had major financial consequences, reflecting the importance of accuracy in contracts within the world of professional football.
