Germany's loss hastens the departure of Ghana's coach
The Ghana Football Association on Tuesday dismissed Otto Addo, the coach of the first team, hours after the friendly loss to Germany. This is about 70 days away from the start of the World Cup.
The Black Stars lost 1-2 in Stuttgart on Monday, after the hosts needed a late goal by Stuttgart striker Denis Undav to avoid embarrassment. This is the fourth defeat in a row for the Addo team, which suffered a heavy 1-5 loss against Austria last week.
The Ghanaian Federation said in its statement, “The Federation expresses its deep thanks to Otto Addo for his contribution to the national team, and wishes him success in his future career.”
The body that governs the game of football in this African country added that it will “announce the new artistic direction of the Black Stars team at the appropriate time.”
Otto Addo, who is 50 years old, took over as coach of the “Black Stars” team in March 2024.
The Ghana national football team is playing as part of a group that includes England, Croatia and Panama in the next edition of the World Cup finals, scheduled to be held this summer in North America.
