Disappointing results for Moroccan tennis in Marrakesh
Moroccan tennis players Younes Alami Laroussi and Amine Jamji were eliminated yesterday, Sunday, from the first round of qualifying for the main table of the 40th edition of the Hassan II Grand Prix, scheduled from March 30 to next April 5 at the courts of the Royal Tennis Club in Marrakesh.
Younes Al-Alami Al-Arousi (438th in the world) was defeated by Tunisian Moez Isharqi (141st in the world) in two sets to zero (4-6 and 6-7), in a match characterized by competition.
The young man, Amin Jamji (19 years old), lost to Japanese Rei Sakamoto (164 in the world) in two sets without a response (4-6 and 2-6).
The competitions continue today, Monday, with the entry of three Moroccan players who benefited from wild cards, where they will participate in the matches of the 32nd round.
Karim Bennani will face French player Quentin Hales; Meanwhile, his compatriot Taha Badi will face Australian Alexander Vucic (93rd in the world), while Reda Bennani will face Italian Mattia Bellucci, ranked fourth in the tournament.
In the remaining matches of the same round, Dutchman Jesper de Jong (91st in the world) will meet with German Jannik Hanfmann (64th in the world).
This event, organized under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, is the only tournament in Africa organized by the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP 250), with the participation of an elite group of the most prominent international players. Among them are the Italian Luciano Darderi (18th globally), the Dutchman Talon Grixboer (29th globally), the Frenchman Corentin Moute (33rd globally), and the Czech Tomas Machak (48th globally).
