Senegal files an appeal with the "Al-Tas"
The Senegalese national team submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in protest against the decision that stripped it of the African Cup of Nations title and awarded the cup to Morocco, according to what the Swiss authority confirmed on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the court said, “The appeal concerns a decision issued by CAF on March 17, 2026, declaring that the Senegalese national team lost the final of the African Cup of Nations (2025 in Morocco) by withdrawing, and granting the victory to the Moroccan national team with a score of 3-0.”
On March 17, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that it had accepted an appeal filed by the Moroccan League, considering that Senegal had violated the tournament regulations by withdrawing its players from the field.
Accordingly, CAF considered that Senegal lost the match by withdrawing, and turned its 1-0 victory into a 3-0 defeat, awarding the title to host Morocco.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport said that Senegal's appeal "seeks to annul the CAF decision and declare the Senegalese Federation the winner of the African Cup of Nations."
“We realize that the teams and fans are looking forward to knowing the final decision, and we will ensure that the arbitration procedures are conducted as quickly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair trial,” said the court’s general director, Matthieu Reib.
