Olympic Safi eliminates Wydad...and faces Ittihad Algeria in the CAF Cup semi-finals
Olympique Safi Club qualified for the semi-finals of the African Confederation Cup at the expense of its host, Wydad Athletic Club, with the advantage of away goals, after the second leg of the quarter-finals of the competition ended in a draw (2-2), this Sunday evening, on the field of Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
The first half ended in a draw (1-1), after Olympique Safi took the lead in the 40th minute, thanks to team captain Sofiane El Mouden via a penalty kick, before Wydad Athletic Club equalized the score in the 45th minute + 9th through Mohamed Mofid.
The 24th minute of the first half witnessed a red card for Wydad, received by goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid, after interfering with Olympique Safi player Imad Khanous.
During the second half, the visiting team was able to score a goal in the 87th minute, but the match referee canceled it due to offside.
In the last minutes of the match, Olympique Safi was able to score the qualifying goal in the 90th minute, thanks to player Moussa Kone.
Wydad equalized the score in the 90th + 7th minute, by player Hakim Ziyech, through a direct foul kick near the penalty area.
The first leg was held at Al-Masirah Stadium in the city of Safi. The two teams tied 1-1.
In the CAF Cup semi-final, Olympique Safi will face Algerian club USM Al-Asimah, which defeated Congolese side Manyema.
