Ronaldo will miss the Portugal camp
Star Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been injured since late February with his Saudi club Al-Nassr, was absent from the Portuguese national team squad that was announced on Friday in preparation for the two friendly matches against Mexico and the United States as part of its preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner suffered a hamstring injury during a match against Al-Fayha in the Saudi League on February 28.
The Portuguese national team coach, the Spanish Roberto Martinez, had indicated that “Cristiano Ronaldo is suffering from a minor injury,” in statements he made this week to local media, without confirming at the time whether the 41-year-old player would miss the international window.
The Portuguese national team will meet its Mexican host on the 28th of this month, before meeting the United States on the 31st in Atlanta.
Portugal will compete in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada between June 11 and July 19, in Group Eleven alongside Colombia and Uzbekistan, with the fourth seat being decided through a playoff match, which may allow New Caledonia, Jamaica, or the Democratic Republic of the Congo to qualify.
